The GT350R has carbon fiber wheels.
The Z/28 has a “flowtie”. I’m confident the Ford guys are correct. They aren’t going to release the GT350R and have it slower than the Camaro.

I’ll concede that it most likely can beat the Camaro but I would have some reservations about it beating a GT3.

It will beat the 5th gen Z/28, chevy will have a hot 6th gen next spring/summer that beats it

Only a second faster than the outgoing Z/28? The people at GM might be smiling.

Yeah, probably.
Wait for the next Camaro Z/28.

I say let’s wait for the 6th gen Camaro Z/28 (or other track based trim) to come out and we will see which one is faster. It did say the Mustang was only one second faster so if Chevy gets it right like they did with the 5th gen 1LE and Z/28 then they should be able to beat Ford.
I still wouldn't want to daily drive either of them.

Good, I hope they do. Then Ford will release a nuttier Mustang which will then be bested by an even newer Camaro which Ford will answer with an even crazier Mustang. Competition is a good thing.

I suspect that it “beat” the competition in the same way the old 662hp GT500 “beat” the Camaro ZL1 on MotorTrend: the ‘Stang posted a faster lap time...once. The Camaro may have been slower, but it consistently recorded quick times.

I was reading an article about how much care went into every little detail to make this the fastest mustang around a track.
I completely believe it matched a GT3s time.

The GT350 is a whole other car then the GT500. The GT350 is a million times better track car and is designed to withstand the torture of long track sessions. The weak point of the GT500 in MT’s comparison test was the brakes, something that could be fixed with the recommended brake fluid Ford put in the GT500 owner’s manual. Then there are the GT350 brakes, which never faded during Ford’s 24 hour track timing.
So I think it’s safe to say the GT350 will be much more consistent. Not to mention with no supercharger, no heatsoak from it.

I think it’s awesome. Also it’s the 991 GT3 by the way, the R matched its lap time. I just couldn’t be happier. That was done on the same day with the same driver. To see a 60K Mustang be on par with a new GT3 is insane. I thought they benchmarked the 997 GT3. The regular GT350 matches a regular 991 911 and a C7 Z51.
I need one of these.

Hey guys! Our new car thats not out yet is faster than another car thats no longer made!
Seriously though, I think theyll be really close. Now when the 6th gen Z28 arrives, itll be whole different story.
Carbon ceramic brakes on the pony?

Yeah carbon fiver wheels on Ontario roads would be a nightmare. The Z/28 would have a pretty harsh ride as well here.

I'm thinking more about the durability of a cf wheel vs conventional. On a Koenigsegg it's different

Yeah I know what you were getting at, I’d like to see how durable they really are. Ontario has a lot of rough roads, especially highways so the rims would go through quite a bit of torture here.
Koenigsegg is different, CVK is a genius and has been using CF a lot the last 10 years where Ford is just beginning to use CF wheels for the first time.

Perhaps ford will surprise us. Im blessed with Texas’s gorgeous roads and I get to drive 85 mph legally to see my brother 30 minutes away
